Hamilton's pastor, Lance Chapman, was born and raised in the Perry Hilltop area of Pittsburgh. He grew up in the Manchester, Eighth United and Riverview Presbyterian Churches. Following high school, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication. After college, he worked for an office furniture company and then for Radio Shack before answering the call to full-time ministry. In May of 1985, he graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. During his studies at seminary he served as Student Assistant Pastor at Riverview Presbyterian Church and Hebron Presbyterian Church. Reverend Chapman served as Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Freedom, PA for over 12 years before coming to Hamilton in August, 1998. Lance and Beverly were married in May of 1980. They have two children, Adam and Hannah. Lance enjoys golfing, reading and most spectator sports, especially the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He has also participated in Habitat for Humanity, PTA/PTSA, school release programs and children latchkey programs. He considers an ideal day as one spent with his family, enjoying the park, taking walks, riding bikes or going to the movies. Lance summarizes his work as a pastor: "Jesus Christ is Lord of my life. My ministry is a reflection of that truth. The Good News of Christ's love comes to people in many ways. I have sought during my years of ordained ministry to help others experience that love. "Ministry is a partnership. A special relationship between God and God's people. Scripture teaches us that we have all received gifts from the Holy Spirit for ministry. As a pastor I believe that my greatest privilege and greatest challenge is to help others discover their spiritual gifts and empower them to use these gifts for the glory of God in their lives." |
